Last April 20, We watched a theatrical play from Bob Ong’s book entitled “Ang Favorite Book Ni Jude”. It is a play that was successfully portrayed by Teatro Tomasino artists that was held at Education Auditorium. A play that depicts Jude’s lost connection with himself and God. A play that questions God’s existence.
Whenever we go to different place like watch a movie in a theater, go to any retail outlet it is important that we take note of the service environment that we usually observed in a place. The service environment gives us more comfortable and relaxing experience. One of which is the ambiance of the place. I like the venue because for me it is really for theatricals because it has two divisions the Orchestra and the Balcony. It can accommodate number of students in the place. I’ve watched a play before at CCP complex and from the moment you’ll enter the place you can hear theatrical music that would make you feel that you really are in a theater. That is one thing Teatro Tomasino play lacks. The place is big enough for number of students. Lucky for us we had the chance to be at the second row. I’m really stoked to watch the play because I haven’t read the book yet and I have this appreciation for theater play now. The title of the play was kind of mysterious and somehow confusing for me. The play already started and the first scene was kind of distressing because some of the characters obviously forget their lines. There is nothing wrong with that but as a viewer you have set expectations for them. I think the succeeding scenes had minimal errors though. One thing also that is distressing for me was when the audience is trying to mock other scenes that is not actually funny because it portrays tragic scenarios of Jude. It’s annoying! The play was good because the artists was great. There were no dull moments like dead air on the play even though some of them are committing errors. I felt bored at the middle of the play where they are just spontaneously delivering their lines to each other particularly Jude and Lena scenes. Added also to this is Jude and Marco’s scenes wherein Marco was talking about his sisters who died because of the typhoon and those long lines they have to deliver. The display outside the venue was good but the moment we came to the place it was not yet arranged. They have just started posting the pictures on the bulletin board, the table is not yet fixed. One thing I have noticed is that there were no signs or arrows leading to the venue of the play. If I’m an outsider, I would be confused since I am not that familiar with the place.
I really recommend the play. It is educational and the artists of Teatro portrayed them well. You will really realized something and learn from it as well. Job well done for Teatro Tomasino!
